Bhutan is among the few countries in the world committed in practice to the conservation of natural environment while also providing sustainable livelihood for its people through a policy now renown as ‘gross national happiness’. The country is now home to some of the richest biodiversity and himalayan culture preserved for centuries. Bumthang District is one of the 20 Dzongkha (districts) of Bhutan and with its number of ancient temples and sacred sites with the history of notable religious cultural figures, it is considered the heartland of Bhutan. It covers the mountain valleys of Ura, Chumey, Tang and Choekhor (“Bumthang”), overall referred to as Bumthang valley.The valley is home to some of the oldest Buddhist temples and monasteries, retreat centers.
While the natural beauty the four valleys in Bumthang and the gateways will amaze, you will also experience the blessings and spiritual power of some of the foremost saints and their meditation sites. Here in Paro at the Tiger’s nest Padmasanbhava had mediated in 8th century and lay the foundations for the wisdom tradition of the region. In Bumthang, the legendary saint Pema Lingpa was born, to whom the Bhutanese royalty trace their descent. In Mebartsho gorge, known as ‘the flaming lake’ Pema Lingpa is said to have found the (wisdom) treasures hidden by Padmasambhava. Our trained guides and instructors will guide you through these landscapes and also facilitate in experiencing these ancient tradition through mindfulness exercises, meditations at these sites. In addition, we will also explore the local villages, farm lands and pastures that make up the pristine, peaceful and hospitable landscape of Bhutan.
The trip will provide an exceptional opportunity to explore and experience Bhutanese life and landscape.
